Health Care and Vaccinations
Best time to visit:
Pakistan has three seasons: winter (November to March) is warm and cooled by sea breezes on the coast; summer (April to July) has extreme temperatures and the monsoon season (July to September) has the highest rainfall on the hills. Karachi has little rain. Global warming is starting to become apparent in Pakistan with warmer winters, glacial melt and a slight dip in temperature in the summer months. However, precautions are needed below.

*A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if travelling from an infected area, although only if you are entering Pakistan within six days of leaving the infected country.
Outside of the major cities healthcare is very basic. You should take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance before travelling, including cover for medical repatriation costs. Seek medical advice before travelling to Pakistan and make certain that all appropriate vaccinations are up to date. Malaria exists in Pakistan, in coastal and low-lying areas. Dengue fever is a threat throughout. In a serious medical emergency the best option is to be evacuated. In an emergency your first point of call should be your embassy and insurance company.
Islamabad has several passable medical facilities. Shifa International (Sector H-8/4,Islamabad; Tel: (51) 460 3666) - is regarded as the best in the city.
In Lahore Mayo Hospital (Hospital Road, Lahore; Tel: (42) 921 1100. In Karachi, the Aga Khan University Hospital is a good choice (Stadium Road, Tel: (21) 493 0051) and takes credit cards.
Entry and Exit Formalities
Passports:
A passport valid for six months beyond the intended length of stay is required by all nationals referred to in the chart above.
Visas:
Visas to Pakistan are required by all nationals and are advised to contact the high commission/embassy to check visa requirements.
Visa note:
You’ll need to prepare a photocopy of your passport, two passport photos, a utility bill for proof of address, your itinerary, a photocopy of your hotel booking, bank statements from the previous three months and a letter from your place of work explaining that you will be returning to work. Business travellers also need letters of invitation from organisations both at home and in Pakistan.

Single-entry visa: $210; double-entry visa: $230; one-year multiple-entry visa: $560; two-year multiple-entry visa: $560; three-year multiple-entry visa: $775. Reductions are available for Pakistani/British , American and Canadian dual nationals.

Air
Flights to Pakistan are served by the national airline, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) (www.piac.com.pk), which flies direct from London, Paris and New York to Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. Major airlines like Etihad Airways now flies direct from Los Angeles to Lahore via Abu Dhabi Emirates in 22 hours. British Airways, Air France and Emirates flies to Pakistan on a regular basis. Other alternative travel to Pakistan is landing at Amritsar International Airport, for the short crossing to Lahore via the Wagah border.
Flight times:
From London to Islamabad is 8 hours and from New York to Islamabad or Lahore is 21 hours 40 mins, Toronto to Lahore is 18 Hours.
